Groundwater

Groundwater: worldwide there are around 2,5 billion people who are completely depended on groundwater for their basic daily water needs. Taken into account that groundwater provides drinking water for 50% of the global population and that it is being widely used for irrigation, it is clear that groundwater is of great importance. In industrialized parts of the world, groundwater is being used by industries as cooling water or as process water.
The biggest threats that we are facing are pollution of groundwater and depletion of the groundwater reservoirs (aquifers). Knowing the level of groundwater makes us understand the interaction with the surface water. Knowing the quality of the water gives us a clear view on pollution. As groundwater is slowly moving it can take years before surface pollution can be noticed in the groundwater.

Log -term measuring of groundwater level and long-term measuring of groundwater quality provides information that is of great importance to understand what is happening with our groundwater.

A standard method to measure the level and the quality of groundwater is using a borehole. These boreholes are usually narrow, typically starting from 2” diameter. But also 1” diameter are being used in certain areas.

So it is clear that a groundwater depth sensor or a groundwater quality sensor needs to be designed to fit into the borehole. We supply groundwater level sensors and groundwater quality sensors, starting from 22mm diameter to be used with 1” boreholes.

Measuring the parameters is one thing, but of course a user needs the data to be easily available. Our sensors are equipped with loggers, where the measurement data are saved in a large internal memory. Of course it is possible to physically go to the measurement spot and download the data from the logger to a laptop, using a wired connection or a Bluetooth device. Easier is, to have the groundwater measurement device to have an integrated modem so all data is being sent automatically to a designated server or to a cloud platform. We have standard solutions that use 3G, 4G, LoRaWAN™ or even satellite modems to transfer the measurement data.
